What you may do
Download these images and run them on a PlayStation 4 you own, for interoperability research, homebrew development or education. Redistribute unmodified copies free of charge as long as every file stays intact, including NOTICE.txt inside the images and this license, the attribution travels with it, and the digests in SHA256SUMS.txt still match so a recipient can confirm they hold the artifact described here. Quote the documentation and link to this site. Inspect, mount, extract and instrument the artifacts so far as your local law allows.
What you may not do
Sell, rent, bundle for payment, or put any file from this release behind a paywall, modified or not. Republish an edited image as though it were this one: any edit changes the JAR digests and forces re-signing, so a re-signed disc is a different program and the findings on the security page no longer describe it. Remove or falsify attribution, in the documentation or inside an image. Use any of this to play pirated content, since nothing here circumvents AACS, BD+ or other content protection and the disc holds no protected content. Demand source code, which is not part of this distribution.
Why there is no source
The reconstruction tooling stays private. Two consequences you should weigh: you cannot rebuild the disc or audit how it was produced, and you can verify every structural, hash and signature claim made here with public tools, which is what the verification page exists for.
Your responsibility
This is a research project and it is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind, implied or otherwise, including any warranty that it works on your console. I have run it on my own console at 14.00 and it worked, which is one machine and one answer. Running it may panic, destabilise or render unbootable your console, corrupt saved data, void your warranty, breach the PlayStation Network terms of service, or cost you a PSN account or console ban. All of that risk is yours. Under no circumstance are the authors or copyright holders liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special or consequential damage, or for loss of data, service, or account standing, arising from the use of these files.
You are responsible for complying with the laws, regulations and platform terms that apply to you and to your device. Console exploitation is treated differently in different places and some of it is contested. Decide that for yourself before you burn a disc.
